• The Education System in Peru

    Public Education

Peru’s education system is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education (“Ministerio de Educación”). This ministry is responsible for the design, implementation and monitoring of the national education system.

The regular educational path leads from 6-year primary education to 5-year general secondary school, consisting of two blocks: Level VI (Ciclo VI, 2 years) and Level VII (Ciclo VII, 3 years). In the second block (level VII), it is possible to enter a vocational branch and obtain the title of Technical Assistant (Auxiliar Técnico) in addition to the secondary school certificate (Certificado Oficial de Educación Secundaria). A total of 11 years of primary and secondary education is compulsory. Graduates then have the opportunity to go to university or to attend a vocational training institution.
